Berlin family is packed with history, but it’s also a hip and happening city in its own right!

There is plenty to see and do for a short break with the kids in this fascinating city, and it could be that you simply can’t fit everything into the time you have. Of course, Berlin has a deep historical link with World War II and you’ll find many historical sites. Some are a little too dark for younger children, but older children will find them educational and fascinating.

Located on an actual island on the River Spree, Museum Island is a great spot for children. Here you’ll find countless museums and several art galleries. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s the ideal spot for helping your children to learn without even realizing it, whilst also having plenty of green space for running off some steam too.

This is a huge plaza which contains several top quality family-friendly attractions, including Legoland Discovery Centre and a huge Cinemax. There are also plenty of places to eat, cafes, and shops too. Kids will love all the entertainment on offer, and adults will be able to do a spot of shopping at the same time!

Berlin Wall Memorial

It’s not possible to go to Berlin and not visit this spot – if you do, your visit isn’t complete! Younger children may struggle to understand but older children will be able to appreciate the significance of the Berlin Wall. You can learn about how the wall was built and why, and what life was like at the time. There is a museum and you can walk up to a platform and look over the whole site.

AquaDom

This is a huge aquarium which children will love and it’s a good idea on a rainy day. You’ll be able to explore 17 themed areas and check out countless species of marine life at the same time. There are many interactive areas for children to learn and feeding displays at various times of the day.

Filmpark Babelsberg

Between April to November, you can check out Filmpark which is dedicated to helping visitors learn how films are made. You’ll find stunt shows and mock movie sets, a huge 4D cinema, and plenty of fun for children of all ages.

Berlin Zoo

Dating back to 1844, Berlin Zoo is home to countless species of wildlife and plenty of open space for your children to run around safely. You’ll find a large petting zoo here, as well as a playground for your children to run off a little of the extra energy they’ve picked up throughout the day.

Natural History Museum

Another rainy day activity which the kids will love! Check out the huge T-Rex and a huge display of other dinosaurs too. You’ll find countless exhibitions in the museum and special ones throughout the year. Children can also learn about the solar system and about the finer points of evolution, without even realizing they’re learning!

Yes, an actual museum dedicated to computer games! Check out the history of vintage games, right up to the modern day. Children will love this spot and it’s quite a low cost place to visit, with family tickets priced at just 19 Euros. There are even interactive stations where children can play vintage games they may have never seen before.

Naturpark Schoneberger Sudgelande

If you’re craving some peace and quiet and a little time away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin’s city center, this wide, green space is the ideal option. 18 hectares of chill out space just for you, with a huge water tower, vintage train tracks running through the park, and plenty of space just to run and spread out. If you visit during the winter, there is a Christmas market held here.

After all the sightseeing, and touring, you will most likely be famished. Why not stop by Locanda 12 Apostoli. The restaurant is located in a listed property on Lake Grunewald. In summer a beautiful summer garden, a beer garden, and a forest playground attract many families to Lake Grunewald. Kids can feast on pizza, pasta, and plenty of ice cream.
