GUCCI’S history

Founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, GUCCI is one of the oldest fashion brands in operation today. Before the second world war, the company produced primarily leather goods including shoes and handbags. When the world went to war, the company was forced to start using cotton to create their goods. It was during this period that GUCCI introduced the Double-G monogram and the world-famous GUCCI Stripe.

In the 50’s, Gucci was the go-to retailer for Hollywood stars, shoppers with deep pockets, and wealthy travelers. The company distinguished itself as the best luxury items producer. Tragedy struck in 1953 when the founder Guccio Gucci passed away. Management was left to his three sons Aldo, Vasco, and Rodolfo.

GUCCI launched its children’s line for the first time in June 2010.

Under new leadership, GUCCI expanded its luxury market by introducing jewelry, eyewear, and watches to its product line. After the death of Rodolfo in 1983, the company went down for a while but was revived back to its former glory by Alessandro Michelle in 2015.
