10 Refreshing Summer Drinks To Make With Your Kids

When summer arrives, it’s important to stay hydrated in the heat. Whether you live somewhere super-hot or somewhere that rarely gets much sun, the very fact that the season has arrived means looking toward fun-filled beverages that children can enjoy. 

We tend to focus so much on adult-orientated drinks but what about the kids? Why should the miss out?

The good news is, you can make sure your little ones get plenty of hydration and some of their fresh fruit and vegetable daily intake in these ten refreshing summer drinks. Even better news? The recipes are easy enough to make together. 

Watermelon Smoothie 

Who doesn’t love watermelon? And, this smoothie is so easy to make. Simply add a medium watermelon to your blender, along with a cup of milk (almond, soy, or whole milk will work), half a cup of yogurt, and top it off with 3 tablespoons of maple syrup. Combine and enjoy!

Oreo Milkshakes

A staple in most households, how about creating a delicious milkshake out of those famous cookies? Simply add a pint of vanilla ice cream to your blender with a cup of milk, 1 tablespoon of chocolate sauce, and 8 Oreos. Blitz and serve! 

Strawberry, Dragon fruit & Apricot Smoothie 

This is one of the easiest and most delicious smoothies around. Simply combine a cup of frozen strawberries, two fresh pitted apricots, a quarter of a dragon fruit, and 3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk for a refreshing treat. 

Smooth Frozen Lemonade 

A twist on the regular lemonade recipe, this beverage will be a hit. Combine half a cup of sugar, with half a cup of water and the zest of a lemon and heat in a medium saucepan, stirring to create a sugar syrup. Allow it to cool slightly as you make the rest. Add another half cup of lemon juice with one cup of full fat coconut milk and throw in a handful of ice cubes. Once the syrup has cooled, add half a cup and combine in a blender. 

Lime & Strawberry Cooler  

Another very tasty drink to make, simply add four cups of sliced strawberries into your blender and top with 3 tablespoons of honey, 3 tablespoons of fresh lime juice, 2 cups of club soda, and 2 cups of coconut water. Throw in some ice cubes and combine.

Cherry Lemonade 

Fresh cherries made a delicious treat but when they’re served in a drink, they’re even better. Add 2 cups of pitted cherries, half a cup of lemon juice and 1/3 cup of sugar to your blender. Add 2.5 cups of water and some ice cubes before blitzing to a smooth consistency. 

Mint & Cucumber Spritz 

This is a truly refreshing drink and one that has a more grown up feel to it. Slice up 3 mini cucumbers and add to your blender. Add 6 torn sprigs of mint, along with 3 sliced lemons (or limes if you prefer). Add a liter of lemon seltzer and some ice cubes before blitzing. 

Red Grape Soda 

You’ll need your blender again for this drink! This time, add 4 cups of seedless red grapes, cut into halves, along with 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 cups of seltzer. Combine for a zingy treat.

Basil, Strawberry & Lime Infused Water

This particular drink looks fantastic in a serving jug and doesn’t require a blender. All you need is a large jug and add 8 cups of water, 3 cups of sliced, fresh strawberries, 2 sliced limes, and a handful of torn, fresh basil leaves. Give everything a good stir and leave in the refrigerator for 4 hours before serving. 

Tropical Fruit Smoothie 

A taste of the Caribbean! For this drink you will need one chopped banana, 3 cups of frozen fruit of your choice, such as pineapple, mango, and strawberries, along with 6oz of vanilla fat-free yogurt. Add this to your blender and then add 3/4 cup of tropical juice, carrot-based if possible. Combine and serve!
